When Smooth Meets Rough
Situated along the English South Coast, this rammed-earth outpost provides a place of quiet contemplation for passing adventurers as they saunter along the crumbling coastline. Inspired by the spiralling form of the nautilus shell; visitors are taken on a sweeping journey upward into a secluded, inner sanctum, whereupon they can reflect in peace mediated by the faint echo of distant crashing waves.
Sandcastle, lighthouse, ruin - the pavilion’s silhouette triggers many interpretations as it stands proudly on the land’s edge, keeping watch over the shoreline. Grounded in its environment, the smooth thick walls emerge from the earth, exposing their rough hidden strata which spirals upward toward the sky.
